Madison District Public Schools – 2021 Bond Election

Location:
Madison Heights, MI

Characteristics
The 2021 Bond Election Project for Madison District Public Schools included renovations to three schools, grossing 124,000 SF: Madison Early Childhood Center; Wilkinson Middle and Madison High. All three received new roofing. Madison High included replacing boilers, upgrading, and providing new HVAC system installations, lighting, new ceilings, and other architectural modifications to support the MEP scope all to improve indoor air quality and overall learning environments.

Overcoming Challenges
Like all school projects, the biggest challenge to overcome was putting nearly $8M of WIP in just under 3 months during Summer Break. Our pre-construction involvement allowed the early buyout of MEP components that provided on-time deliveries of long lead items. We were also able to install electrical panel feeders, branch raceways & wire-pulling activities during the second shift before Summer Break. Our boiler replacement activities were also able to start in mid-May (while classes were still in session) when the heating plant shut down for the season.
